we've had a very unfortunate incident over the weekend that led to the amputation of the inner, front-facing toe on the left side. I was pretty much sick to my stomach after the whole thing happened and then again when I heard his toe needed to be amputated. (I won't go into the details here. the people who need to know the whole story already know.)

i immediately contacted my "mentor" coordinator about the things that should be done and the family who is set to adopt Bentley soon. We did everything quickly and as calm as can be. I am just glad its only a toe.

Bentley is now on Cipro for 7 days (once a day) and Metacam (pain reliever) once a day for 5 days.

today is the day after the amputation. my husband is on spring break from school so he stayed home all day with him. it seems that he still has his normal activity level and eats normally. its a good sign! he is now sleeping in his cage (we had him sleep in the travel carrier in our bedroom just to watch him).

he does have tape wrapped around his foot. he has been picking on it a little, but has not taken the entire thing off...yet. we are keeping an eye on that.

this friday is a follow up exam and it is when they will take off the tape. i will follow up with any updates.
